Sherrard High School
The Marching Tigers:
This group performs for all home SHS football games, community parades, school events, and multiple competitions each year.  The Marching Tigers are the sound of Sherrard Football.  This ensemble is required for all high school band members.
Symphonic Band:
This group is the main ensemble of the SHS Bands.  The Symphonic Band starts once the football season concludes.  High School Band is a fun way for students to express themselves musically while learning leadership, teamwork, passion, responsibility, pride, and good work ethics in a safe band community.  Students learn about their instruments in a performance based class focused on music education and playing their instruments everyday.  Participation in out of school performances, concerts, competitions, parades, and festivals is required and reflected in the student's band grade.  Dates of these events will be given with plenty of notice.  This ensemble puts on 3 concerts each year (Holiday, Winter, and Spring Concerts).  The Symphonic Band participates in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Solo & Ensemble and Organization Contests each spring along with possible festivals/contests like the University of Illinois Superstate Contest and Illinois All-State Conference.  The pre-requisite to be in High School Band is participation in Junior High Concert Band or a specific recommendation from the Band Director.  This ensemble is required for all high school band members.
Percussion Ensemble:
This group meets all school year and encompasses the Marching Tigers (Drumline and Front Ensemble) and Symphonic Band percussion students.  The curriculum is aligned with the High School Band Class.  This ensemble gives the percussion students a unique opportunity to perform pieces consisting of just percussion along with continuing to perform on all of the Marching Tigers and Symphonic Band pieces of music.  The students will get individualized instruction tailored to the specifics of being a percussionist.  This ensemble is required for all high school percussion members and jr. high percussion members in the Marching Tigers (only until the marching season concludes).
Basketball Pep Band:
This group performs for all home Boys SHS basketball games and select home Girls SHS basketball games.  The Pep Band meets for a short time before every basketball game to rehearse.  The Pep Band is the sound of Sherrard Basketball.  This ensemble is required for all high school band members.
Musical Pit Band:
This group performs for the theatre musical productions at Sherrard High School.  The Musical Pit Band meets outside of the school day to rehearse and prepare for the production.  This is an audition only group that is made up of instrumentation called for by the theatre production.
Sherrard Junior High School
Concert Band:
This group is the main ensemble of the SJHS Bands.  The Concert Band rehearses all year and is made up of 7th and 8th grade students.  Junior High Concert Band is a fun way for students to express themselves musically while learning leadership, teamwork, passion, responsibility, pride, and good work ethics in a safe band community.  Students learn about their instruments in a performance based class focused on music education and playing their instruments everyday.  Participation in out of school performances, concerts, competitions, and festivals is required and reflected in the student's band grade.  Dates of these events will be given with plenty of notice.  Some of these events can consist of but are not limited to 3-4 Band Concerts throughout the year (Fall, Holiday, Winter, & Spring), Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) Solo & Ensemble Contest, IGSMA Organizational Contest, and other fun performances, festivals and competitions.  The Junior High Band often has the opportunity to travel (such as the JH Band Six Flags Great America Trip).  The pre-requisite to be in Junior High Band is participation in 6th Grade Beginning Band or a specific recommendation from the Band Director.  This ensemble is required for all junior high school band members.
Matherville Intermediate School
Beginning Band:
This group is the main ensemble of the Matherville Intermediate School Bands.  The Beginning Band begins rehearsals near the beginning of the fall semester and continues into the spring.  Beginning Band is a fun way for students to express themselves musically while learning their instrument, leadership, teamwork, passion, responsibility, pride, and good work ethics in a safe band community.  Students learn about their instruments in a performance based class focused on music education and playing their instruments everyday.  Participation in out of school performances and concerts is required and reflected in the student's band grade.  Dates of these events will be given with plenty of notice.  This ensemble puts on 2 concerts each year (Holiday Concert and Spring Concert).  The Beginning Band is the first opportunity for 6th grade students to participate in band.  This ensemble is required for all intermediate school band members.
Sherrard Jazz Program
Jazz Ensemble I:
The Sherrard Jazz Ensemble I is an audition only group made up of approximately 22 students who want to participate in a big band style jazz band. The Jazz Ensemble I is an outside of school ensemble for students enrolled in the Sherrard Bands who are looking for a fun and challenging group to expose themselves to the world of jazz. This group rehearses twice per week for an hour and a half once the competitive marching season concludes. The philosophy behind the Sherrard Jazz Program is to expose students to different styles of music and give students an opportunity to express themselves and show their creativity through music. The Sherrard Jazz Ensemble I is the top of two jazz big bands at Sherrard with an average of 48 students involved in jazz each year, and is a competitive ensemble that attends multiple competitions and festivals each season. The band performs at all of the school’s band/jazz concerts, select jazz festivals/competitions such as the Jazz In The Meadows Competition, Western Illinois University Jazz Festival and Bradley University Jazz Festival, IHSA Organizational Contests, and other performances around Sherrard. The Sherrard Jazz Ensemble I was invited to perform at the ILMEA 2020 Illinois All-State Music Education Conference in Peoria, Illinois for the first time in program history. The Sherrard Jazz Program hosts the Sherrard Jazz Showcase & Dinner Festival, now in its 4th year with an average of 11 middle, high school and college jazz bands in attendance. The jazz bands have traveled to Disney World in Florida and performed at jazz clubs in St. Louis, Missouri and Chicago, Illinois.
Jazz Band II:
The Jazz Band II is an audition only group made up of approximately 26 students who want to participate in a big band style jazz band.  Jazz Band is an additional outside of school ensemble that is optional only for students enrolled in the Band who are looking for a fun and challenging group to expose themselves to the world of jazz.  This group rehearses twice per week for an hour once the SHS football season concludes.  The philosophy behind the jazz band program is to expose students to a different style of music.  The band gives students an opportunity to express themselves and show their creativity through music.  The band performs at all of the school’s band concerts, select jazz festivals, and other performances around Sherrard.
